Terry Masters I was born in Sacramento in 1955 and moved to Palm Springs in 1967. Some years later I discovered true love... painting outdoors in oil. Ken Auster, the great Laguna painter gave me my first instruction in painting “en plein aire.” I have also worked with Daniel Gerharts, Jeremy Lipking, Mark Kerchkhoff and Matt Smith and I’ve learned a great deal from my fellow California painters.
I am an artist member of the California Art Club a well as a member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association.
As for my philosophy on painting...I just look for things that catch my eye and then do my best to render them in an honest, painterly way. I tell my friends I am “the painter of whatever.” Everything is fair game and that is the way I like it.
I hope you enjoy my work.

Artists Statement - 1st Annual Invitational - July 21 - September 5, 2007
As a mechanical engineer with the Merchant Fleet of the Soviet Union, my life was very different before I came to America.
Although in my school years I was an art major, my life did not allow me the time or the energy to be an artist. I was an atheist then, but eleven years ago my life changed when I found Christianity. From that moment on, I began to paint once again.
I left the merchant fleet when I got married and began to paint full time and after a while I was fortunate enough to be able to make a living with my art. Since I came to America in 2000, I have been painting, but it was only in the last two years that I have been able to paint full time.
Whether it is from other artists or from my own experience painting, I am proud to say that I learn something every time I pick up a brush. This collection embodies my new home here in America and I am proud to be able to show my work in Southern California.
Oleg currently resides in Vancouver, Washington with his wife Victoria, and his three children: Daniel, 9, Darya 6 and Olga 5 months.

The paintings in this show were selected from a group painted off country roads in Tuolumne and Mariposa Counties in Spring 2007. Most of them are centered around a bridge on Algerine Road in Tuolumne County.
This spot is truly magical in spring. There is bridge itself and a paintable scene in every direction.
I paint in early morning when it is cool and there are strong shadows. While these paintings were made on site, they are finished and sometimes overhauled in my workshop.
For me the work is painting on site, and the fun is when I can relax and let my imagination run amok. That is in the workshop. I am restrained by the notion that I want these scenes to be easily recognizable, in spite of any license I have taken.
I hope these paintings show you a place where you would love to have a picnic, kick back and enjoy what nature has to give.

Leslie H. Hurst I am a plein-air painter who just sees things a little differently!
I always start outside, sketching or painting quickly on either boards, panels, cardboard or paper. I am looking for form and color and trying to narrow in on just what is exciting about what I am seeing. Then when I get into my studio I start thinking about the edges of what I saw and how they intersected with their backgrounds. I crank up my music, get myself back into that space outside and have at it.
Almost all of my paintings are painted ala-prima or at 'one go' and often the first painting leads to another as I begin to wonder 'what would happen if?
My painting style is as you see here loose, impressionistic and full of color. I hope you enjoy my vision of California.

Dennis Garcia I have been painting for well over forty years. I have been touched and influenced by many other artists and their work. When I look at works by Leonard Da Vinci I see perspectives. When I look at works of the impressionists I see the use of color theory and ethereal atmosphere of his colors. And when I look at the work of Karl Benjamin I see crisp edges and overlapping shapes. To get what I have produced in my current work I have taken these influences and translated them through my fascination with geometry of space and the structural landscape of architecture.
