Artists throughout the ages have depicted famous rivers of
the world. Paris has the Seine, London
has the Thames and Rome has the Tiber River. This collection of paintings from my current
series "The Los Angeles River" is the first public showing of my version of
LA's own iconic and largely hidden waterway.
Through my paintings I aspire to stimulate meaningful conversation and understanding about enduring issues and to depict the beauty found in common, oft-overlooked places.
As a fine artist I specialize in urban landscapes, but I also paint portraits and commissions. My painting style might be defined as California Contemporary Realism. I am also on Instagram at @johnkostaart.
